Charlottesville, neo nazis, and the Bible

TRIGGER WARNING: UNCHARACTERISTICALLY POLITICAL POST, LANGUAGE AND DISTURBING IMAGES

I’ve been reading a lot of “news” and thinking a lot about what has happened in Charlottesville. Different groups conducted an organized, and at first, a peaceful march to protest the removal of a confederate monument in the city. We all sort of know what happened next. People were hurt. One woman died. Many more could have been killed. Some people at the protest were claiming that they are neo-nazis. Those are the people with which this post is concerned.

So who were the good guys that night?

If you talk to the left, it was them. If you talk to the Alt-right, it was them. And when you talk to either they both claim they hate Nazis. Its all very confusing.

So I want to share with you a Bible story that I can’t help but compare this situation to. And maybe we can draw some parallels and learn a thing or two about what is right and what is wrong.

Once upon a time in the Bible, the Jews were wandering around in the desert. They had been wandering for many years and would still wander many years until they were allowed to pass into the promised land. And they weren’t the only ones wandering in that desert. There were some very bad people out there and every once in a while the Jews would bump into them.

Well one day they bumped right into the Moabites. The Moabites were not allowed to mingle with the Jews. They were pagans and hated the God of the Living. So God commanded the Jews to stay away. Completely away. Like, don’t even look at them kind of away.

But apparently, their women were pretty. So the Jews start fraternizing with them and started to “commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.” (Numbers 25:1) This is not a smart move because God refuses to let this slide.

So here you have a classic landscape of good and evil existing side by side, tension in the middle, and one of these forces is going to have to win out. Good will win only by immediately cutting off ties with Moab completely. Evil will win by slowly, slowly encroaching in on the Jewish camp, nuzzling up to them, marrying them, and eventually coercing them to forget their god.

Well evil started to win. Many many thousands of Jews start to worship idols and partake in very gross, very sinful rituals with the people of Moab. So God tells Moses that those people must go. Moses and his armies destroy those people. As harsh as it sounds, thats what happens.

This is a very sad time for the Jews because so many of their brethren have been killed for their sins. They are all mourning and worshipping at the tabernacle. Moses is sitting there with his right hand man who’s name was Phinehas helping his people to worship and mourn. Then something crazy happens.

And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.”(Numbers 25:6)

Let me explain. This “child of Israel”, this dude, comes waltzing into camp with a girl from Moab. Totally unashamed. The Jews have literally just had to kill thousands of their brethren because they left God for Moabite girls. And this effing dude, comes skipping by the tabernacle, right by Moses, with this girl. Right by Moses! I man who has dedicated his entire life to serving a people who basically spit in his face. And this effing guy parades his sin in front of him. THEN he takes this girl into his tent, in full view of Moses and everyone else, and starts making babies with her.

Well….Phinehas ain’t havin’ that shit.

And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;” (Numbers 25:7)

OH SNAP!

And he went after the man in Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly.” (Numbers 25:8)

BOOM.

So what does this have to do with Charlottesville and neo nazis? Well let me see if I can make the stretch.

We defeated hitler in WWII. hitler is a sack of shit. nazis are also that. (You may have noticed by now that I don’t capitalize the names of things like hitler or nazis on principle)

We defeated them. We wiped their skidmark of a legacy off the face of the planet. Because we were doing the right thing. For once in who knows how long, the world decided, as one, that killing nazis was a good thing and you should do it. Constantly. With zeal and great pomp. Because it was the right thing to do to keep us together as humans and to allow us to be a free people.

Then, for no reason at all, these effing dude come up into Charlottesville, flaunting their anger around with white flags and tiki torches. Right in front of us! We, who have all decided that people like them, just have to go. They flaunt their Moabite selves all up in front of the American temple of our freedom and dare us to say or do anything.

So what should we have done? What should we do now? What should we always do?

The correct answer is you go Phinehas all over their dumb asses. You take a javelin into their camp and run them through.

nazis must always be opposed (I can’t believe this is something that needs to be said still) They must always be swiftly destroyed, at least in ideals and principle. They must never be given rights or freedoms. Not even in America. The constitution does not extend to nazis. Why? Because they’re nazis.

There are a few universal truths that we can all agree on. That all of humanity has somehow managed to agree on. For instance…We all love freedom. We all love cheeseburgers. We all love Netflix. Universal facts.

And here’s another one. We all hate nazis. And they all have to go.

PS – Things that are okay to do to nazis ….
