… that when the Israelites left Egypt after they crossed through the Red Sea they were only about a ten day walk from the promised land. So when we talk about the Israelites “wandering” in the desert for 40 years, that’s not entirely accurate. They all knew where the promised land was. They knew how far away it was. They knew what direction it was in. They weren’t lost. They were commanded to stay in the desert. They were not allowed to enter the promised land. They weren’t wandering. They were sinning. And God wasn’t going to let them bring that sin into the place that was supposed to be their new beginning. So they stayed ten days away for forty years.
